Home Gyms

If you want to get a great weight lifting workout at home, home gym weight machines can deliver the feeling of working out with free weights, but with stability and safety of fixed weights. Home gym weight machines can approximate the gym experience in your home and unlike free weights, don’t require a second person to act as a safety spotter when lifting heavy weights. Owning your own home gym weight lifting equipment also means there is no time wasted driving to the gym, and there is money to be saved on gym memberships too.

There are a wide range of home weight machine models on the market, and prices can range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. Weight machines can take up a lot of space and finding a machine that will fit in your home is important. Some of the smaller machines can be folded for storage but most of the larger units can not. Large weight machines can weigh a few hundred pounds and are often difficult to move around. Having a permanent place in your home for your gym machine is the best set-up. If you have to set-up a heavy machine each time every time you want to exercise, you simply will not do it as often. It will make your exercise far less fun and much easier to skip.

Different weight machines come in different configurations. Larger weight machines will have two or three exercise stations and multiple stacks of weights. Higher-end models have more pulleys and allow more than one person to exercise at the same time. Your home gym weight machine should be large enough for full range of body and limb movement without requiring awkward body positions or the use of uncomfortable straps. Taller people should definitely test any weight machine before purchase to make sure the machine is large enough to exercise freely without being cramped. Most weight machines use cast iron or cement weights to provide resistance; a few of the higher-end units employ spring bars and gas-filled cylinders.

The average basic weight resistance is about 200 lbs. for most home use weight machines, and most will allow the resistance to be expanded to 300 or 400 pounds. Some of the lower-end, entry-level models do not feature expansion capability. Increased weight resistance can be especially useful when working the stronger muscles like legs. A good weight machine will also come with a good warranty and cover many years of use, if not a lifetime.
