Exercise Mats
The right exercise mat can make the difference between a good workout or exercise experience, and a not-so-good experience. You can’t really exercise, workout or meditate properly if you are experiencing discomfort on a hard floor surface the whole time. You don’t necessarily need a space-age, super-high-tech exercise mat in most cases, you just need the right mat for the activity you’ll be doing on it. The type of exercise program you have planned will determine the mat you’ll need. One mat does not work for every activity and you’ll need a different mat for yoga than the one you’ll use for floor exercises.
Exercise Mats come in all shapes and sizes and are usually made of some sort of plastic or rubberized materials. Some exercise mats can be rolled up while others must be folded. Most are less than a half-inch thick and made of a dense foam or rubber that will act as a barrier between your body and the hard floor. Most exercise takes place in areas with hard floors, and solid surfaces can be tough on your body. You can actually injure the vertebrae in your back or at least cause your joints or bones to ache after a workout without a mat or on one that is too thin.
The size of your exercise mat is also important, you don’t want to slip off your mat and strike the floor in the middle of your routine because you purchased a mat that was too small. Obviously, you don’t want to get hurt during your exercise training, so the proper size of your exercise mat depends on both your individual body size and the exercises you’ll be doing on it. Affordability is not such a big factor in exercise mats as almost all of them are relatively inexpensive pieces of equipment. You don’t need to spend a lot on and exercise mat in order to get a good one though, all you need is a simple mat that has the right thickness and cushioning for the type of work you’ll be doing on it.
